Buick Lucerne Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on Buick Lucerne?
    A:
One must start the Fuel Rail assembly replacement process by managing fuel system pressure. You must disconnect the fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting from the Fuel Rail before removing the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube from the combination of intake duct and Intake Manifold along with removing the Spark Plug Wires from the Ignition Coils. First disconnect the engine harness electrical connectors from throttle actuator and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and Fuel Injectors along with engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor and ignition control module wiring harness and the spark plug wire retainer from the Fuel Rail assembly. The engine harness retainers connecting to the Fuel Rail must be detached as well as the connectors to (1, 3) heat shield points. Subsequently remove the engine harness electrical connector from the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, evaporative emission (EVAP) solenoid, and heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) pigtail. Gather engine harness branches from the path before you take off the Fuel Rail nuts to lift the rail carefully with an equal amount of force on both sides. Changing the Fuel Rail includes removing the Fuel Injector retainers followed by the injectors while discarding both upper and lower o-ring seals. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate the new o-ring seals which must be placed on the injector before Fuel Injector and retainer installation. Both lower o-ring seals require lubrication before setting the Fuel Rail into position and seating the injectors through gentle top pressure. Fasten the Fuel Rail nuts until they reach 10 n.m (89 lb in) and place the engine harness over the engine before securing the retainers to the Fuel Rail. The engine harness electrical connectors need to attach to both the fuel injectors and ho2s pigtail as well as the EGR Valve and evap solenoid. Install retainer items (1, 3) to the heat shield. The engine harness needs electrical connector installation on the MAP Sensor and ignition control module and ect sensor and throttle actuator along with spark plug wire connection to the ignition coils. The pcv tube should be reattached after which the fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting and the negative Battery Cable need to be restored. A leak inspection should begin by turning the ignition on for two seconds followed by turning it off for ten seconds and then turning on again before installing the Intake Manifold cover.
