  The first step to fix the shift interlock solenoid requires disabling the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. The automatic transmission shift lock control must be extracted from the steering column jacket assembly by using a screwdriver. You should install the automatic transmission shift lock control onto the steering column jacket assembly while making proper adjustments for it. The shift lever should be installed when it is missing. You need to pull the tab out from the block side of the automatic transmission shift lock control before you position the column in neutral mode. Push down on the adjuster block while the automatic transmission shift lock control in neutral to compress the internal adjuster spring. This disengages the adjuster teeth which allows you to move the adjuster block away from the solenoid as far as possible. Press the tab into position to lock the automatic transmission shift lock control while positioning the column at neutral. Check if the automatic transmission shift lock control activates to lock the gear shift lever when placed in park mode. The gear shift lever from the park position should remain locked until the brake pedal receives a press which activates the solenoid. After proper adjustment of the system enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
