Buick Rainier Differential Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to assemble the differential case on Buick Rainier?
A: To build the Differential case, one should first lubricate the pinion and side gears with proper axle lubricant. Mount the Differential side gear thrust washers to the Differential side gears and insert the side gears and washers into Differential case back to their original positions if they are reused. Then, add the first pinion gear just in the middle of the Differential side gears, and the second one installment will also be located right opposite to the first one. Rotate the side gears until pinion gears come over into the opening of the Differential case, then install the thrust washers putting them in as pinion were rotated towards the opening. Install pinion gear shaft and fasten it using new pinion gear shaft lock pin with the hammer and brass drift. Before installing the ring gear with left-hand thread bolts, make sure that the mating surface of the ring gear and Differential case is clean. Hand-start all new ring gear bolts to ensure proper installation and tighten the bolts alternately and in grades to a torque of 83 nm (61ft. Lbs.). Lastly, install the Differential side bearings by inserting the j 8107-2 in the case backwards from the bearing installation and use the j 33790 Differential side bearing installer (J33790) and the j 8092 universal driver handle (J8092) to install the bearings.
