Buick Rainier Lash Adjuster Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve rocker arm and valve lash adjuster on Buick Rainier?
A: Tools required include: torque angle meter (J 36660-A) and Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222). Start off by unbolting the Camshaft cover, the bolts for exhaust and intake sprockets. Mount the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222) to the Cylinder Head, aligning the horizontal bolts with the Camshaft sprockets to keep chain tension and avoid interference with the timing chain objects. Very carefully remove the sprockets that are paired with the timing chain from the camshafts and store the Camshaft caps in a rack for proper reinstallation later on. Remove the Camshaft cap bolts after which remove the camshafts caps and then camshafts. Organize the removed Rocker Arms and valve lash adjusters to reinstall in their original position and location. Take off the valve rocker arms and valve lash adjusters. For installation, lubricate and fill the valve lash adjusters with engine oil, and install them back using their original installation locations. Lubricate the valve Rocker Arm roller and place the valve rocker arms back to their original positions, put engine oil on Camshaft journals prior to reinstallation of camshafts. Install the Camshaft caps onto the original journals and tighten the Camshaft caps bolts to 12nm (106 inch lbs). Take detailed steps to reposition Camshaft sprockets onto the camshafts and remove the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222). The intake Camshaft sprocket washer and bolt, and the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt need to be installed and tightened, with the intake Camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) on the first turn, then with the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) 100 more degrees. Tighten the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs. On the first pass then 135 degrees using Torque Angle Meter (J 36660-A). Finally, install the Camshaft cover.
