Buick Rainier Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the valve rocker arm and valve lash adjuster on Buick Rainier?
    A:
To replace the valve Rocker Arm and valve Lash Adjuster, remove the Camshaft cover and exhaust and the functions inlet sprocket bolts. Mount the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J44222) onto the Cylinder Head, aligning the horizontal bolts into the Camshaft sprockets to ensure the proper tension of the chain and do not touch the driving chain components. Gently lift the sprockets with the timing chain off the camshafts and then remove the Camshaft cap bolts. Make sure that the Camshaft caps are put in a rack for an easy replacement. Then, remove the Camshaft caps, camshafts, valve rocker arms, and valve lash adjusters without losing track of their position for reassembly. Before installing lubricate and fill the valve lash adjusters with the engine oil. Make sure to lubricate the valve Rocker Arm roller and replace the valve rocker arms into their previous location; apply a coat of engine oil on the Camshaft journals and insert the camshafts. Replace the original Camshaft caps back onto the original journals and tighten the Camshaft cap bolts to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Gently reinstall the Camshaft sprockets to the camshafts and take the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222) off. Mount the intake Camshaft sprocket washer and bolt, then the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt, and tighten the intake Camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.), followed by 100 degrees with the torque angle meter (J 36660-A). Torque the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt, 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) on the first pass, then additional 135 degrees on the final pass with the torque angle meter (J 36660-A). Finally, install the Camshaft cover.
  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve rocker arm and valve lash adjuster on Buick Rainier?
    A:
Tools required include: torque angle meter (J 36660-A) and Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222). Start off by unbolting the Camshaft cover, the bolts for exhaust and intake sprockets. Mount the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222) to the Cylinder Head, aligning the horizontal bolts with the Camshaft sprockets to keep chain tension and avoid interference with the timing chain objects. Remove the Camshaft cap bolts after which remove the camshafts caps and then camshafts. Organize the removed Rocker Arms and valve lash adjusters to reinstall in their original position and location. Take detailed steps to reposition Camshaft sprockets onto the camshafts and remove the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222). The intake Camshaft sprocket washer and bolt, and the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt need to be installed and tightened, with the intake Camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 nm (15 ft.
