Buick Rainier Rocker Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the valve rocker arm and valve lash adjuster on Buick Rainier?
A: You should start replacing the valve Rocker Arm and valve Lash Adjuster by taking out the Camshaft cover as well as the exhaust and intake sprocket bolts. The Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222) needs installation on the Cylinder Head with its horizontal bolts inserted into the Camshaft sprockets to sustain chain tension while keeping Timing Chain components intact. Bother the sprockets and Timing Chain from the camshafts by placing the Camshaft caps in a rack for future reinstallation. Begin by taking out the Camshaft cap hardware followed by its caps and then proceed to remove the camshafts. After removal place all valve rocker arms along with valve lash adjusters in their correct locations according to the original arrangement. Detach and remove all valve rocker arms together with their associated valve lash adjusters. The installation process requires engine oil for lubricating the valve lash adjusters prior to their placement back in the original positions. The valve rocker arms receive engine oil lubrication before their installation. Install the valve rocker arms in their original positions while applying engine oil to the Camshaft journals and proceed to reinstall the camshafts. Use 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) torque when bolting the Camshaft caps onto their original locations. Proceed with placing sprockets on their respective camshafts and extract the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222). After mounting the exhaust cam actuator bolt and intake cam sprocket washer install the torque wrench to clamp the intake cam bolt at 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) twice tighten the bolt an additional 100 degrees with the torque angle meter (J 36660-A). The exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt must be fastened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) during the initial step before adding another 135 degrees using the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) during the second step. Finally, install the Camshaft cover.
