Q: How to replace the coolant pipe inlet on Cadillac DeVille?
A: As a first step to replace the surge tank pipe inlet, drain a portion of engine coolant from the system. Start by removing the two nuts from the intake manifold sight shield then remove the sight shield from the engine. First disconnect the surge tank inlet hose from the surge tank and afterward remove the PCV fresh air tube . The procedure starts with hose removal at the engine front where generator coolant hose connects and at the engine inlet where surge tank inlet hose connects. The third step disconnects generator coolant hose from heater pipe. Two push nuts onto the engine need removal to free the pipe assembly then extract the surge tank/generator coolant pipe assembly from its position. Place the surge tank/generator coolant pipe assembly back on the engine before tightening it with two push nuts. Reconnect the generator coolant hose to the heater pipe then install the surge tank inlet hose to the engine. Afterward, return the generator coolant hose to its front position on the engine and install the PCV fresh air tube . Secure the surge tank inlet hose to the surge tank while placing the intake manifold sight shield into its engine position. Screw two intake manifold sight shield nuts into place and tighten them to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.) before filling the cooling system.
