Whereas earlier models could have incorporated cast iron water pumps in defeating the car's weight issue, present day DeVille cars boast of a lightweight aluminum water pump. Signs include dripping of coolants, noise that originates from the bearings of the water pump, and overheating of engine.     Q: How to replace the water pump on Cadillac DeVille?
    A:
    Begin by draining the cooling system before removing the upper filler panel, air cleaner assembly, secondary air injection control valve, and the oil level indicator tube nut. Begin by removing fasteners on the Water Pump belt shield and shield itself before proceeding to detach the Water Pump Drive Belt. Hose clamp pliers (J 38185) will disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the Thermostat Housing before the Water Pump cover bolts and cover itself can be removed. Insert the Water Pump remover & installer (J 38816-A) onto the Water Pump locking ears while keeping the support plate connected to the water housing crossover for precise installation. Turn the j 38816-a clockwise to extract the pump from its housing and then remove the support plate and Water Pump. Clean the sealing surfaces of the water housing crossover and pump cover after removing the crossover's seal while checking the Water Pump for any damage. To fit the seal properly position it in the cross-sectional notch of the water crossover with the locking ear set at 7 o'clock and line up the Water Pump's locking ears with the tangs on the water crossover. Lock the j 38816-a tool onto the locking ears of the Water Pump while securing the support plate before turning the tool counterclockwise steadily to achieve a 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) torque. The installation requires users to attach the Water Pump cover to the heater return hose before fitting the cover onto the water housing crossover while tightening the cover bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Secure the radiator outlet hose to the Thermostat Housing by using hose clamp pliers (J 38185) before you install the Water Pump Drive Belt and place and secure the Water Pump belt shield with a torque of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Finally, install the oil level indicator tube nut to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.)the cooling system requires filling after installation of the secondary air injection control valve and air cleaner assembly and upper filler panel.
