In place of the
Rack And Pinion inner Tie Rod, first raise the vehicle to safety stands. Take out the tire and wheel assembly. After moving the boot, check the inner Tie Rod for corrosion or soiling; if none exists, carry out repair otherwise replace the steering gear. Remove the
Rack and Pinion Boot. Remove the Rack and Pinion Boot. Laying out of the rack bearing preload adjustment must not be altered before removing of the inner Tie Rod or damage may occur. Take off the shock dampener from the inner Tie Rod and slide it back onto the rack. Take off the inner Tie Rod from the rack assembly by putting a wrench on the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing and turning it in a counter clockwise direction until it becomes detached from the rack. Clean the old loctite(r) off the threads on the rack and the inner Tie Rod. Before fitting the inner Tie Rod, make sure the shock dampener will be on the rick and the threads are clean. Check the threads are inside the section at the end of the rack, rough them out, to clean any build up, and install the inner Tie Rod. Apply loctite 262 (or equal to) to the inner Tie Rod threads and install to the Rack And Pinion. Use a torque wrench with the j 34028 to tighten the inner Tie Rod to 100 nm (74 lb ft), while holding the rack when tightening the Tie Rod. Push the shock dampener over the housing of the inner Tie Rod until it bottoms out against the housing. Follow with the installation of Rack and Pinion Boot and then the tire and wheel assembly. Take out the safety stands, lower the vehicle, and check for wheel alignment.
