Chevrolet Classic Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the brake shoes on Chevrolet Classic?
    A:
The replacement process for brake shoes begins with lifting the vehicle correctly and removing the tire assembly with its wheel before removing the Brake Drum. The repair of one drum brake assembly per rear compartment makes it possible to refer to the remaining assembly for visual guidance. You should then remove the adjuster spring followed by application of the j 38400 (J 38400) Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover to spread brake shoes for extracting adjuster assembly and adjuster lever from the Brake Shoe. Use the hook of the j 38400 (J 38400) tool to lift the universal spring out from the shoe web hole when the tool remains positioned beneath. Maintain the universal spring under your control to remove the Brake Shoe. The park brake lever needs removing from the Brake Shoe through the removal of its retaining clip. You should connect the park brake lever to the Brake Shoe and secure it with the retaining clip for installation. The j 38400 (J 38400) should be utilized to correctly position the universal spring as you install the Brake Shoe into its web hole during assembly. The top of brake shoes requires spreading with the j 38400 (J 38400) to fit the adjuster assembly and the adjuster lever before adding the adjuster spring. Complete the drum brake system adjustment before putting on the Brake Drum and reinstalling the tire wheel assembly and lowering the vehicle.
