Chevrolet Classic Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake pads on Chevrolet Classic?
A: Before working on brake pads check brake master cylinder fluid level. No fluid needs to be removed when the reservoir shows middle position between its highest and lowest points. Drain fluid when the reservoir reads above mid-point. Mount your car lift to support it and take out the wheel package with tire. Use hand tools to attach two lug nuts before taking off the brake caliper and brake pads from their bracket on the caliper. Inspect the caliper bracket for damage to its disc brake parts by removing both retainer slides. Replace parts after verifying any signs of wear on the hardware and caliper dust boot. Inspect the caliper bolts and pins for damage or corrosion then replace them along with all metal-to-metal bushings when finding surface damage. Insert a Brake Pad or wooden block onto the Piston so you can push the Piston below its slot without damaging the parts. Install the retainer slides onto the caliper bracket with the pad having the wear indicator facing inward against the Piston and a vertical orientation once the caliper is in position. Place the pads onto the caliper bracket and take away the 2 hand-tight wheel lug nuts before installing the caliper. Install the wheel and tire then lower the vehicle before slowly applying the brake pedal to about 2/3 of its length using an engine shutdown method. Once 15 seconds pass install and rotate the brake caliper until you reach a solid brake pedal to allow the brake pistons to settle into their slots correctly. Last step is adding brake fluid to the master cylinder tank while using a Brake Disc and pad resurfacing tool.
