The Chevrolet Colorado uses a thermostat to regulate temperatures of its engine and to maintain these temperatures within a certain range. Found on the vicinity of the radiator, the thermostat is responsible for controlling the temperature of the engine by opening to let water into the engine cooling jackets so as to avoid overheating. If the thermostat is faulty, it can cause a problem like overheating of the engines and severe damage. The Chevrolet Colorado which came to replace the S-10 series has different body styles and mechanicals; the gasoline inline-4 engines with optional manual/automatic transmission. Even today, the Colorado continued to use mechanical thermostat, to be specific, wax pellet thermostats that simply expand and contract in relation to heat, making them good in controlling engine temperature. This mechanism is therefore very useful in the maintenance of the performance and durability of the vehicle.

Chevrolet Colorado Thermostat Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine coolant thermostat in LLV and LLR engines (2.9L, 3.7L) on Chevrolet Colorado?
    A:
To replace the engine-coolant Thermostat in vehicles with llv and llr engines (2.9L, 3.7L), start with draining the cooling system. Lift and stabilize the vehicle enough to reach the Thermostat Housing wheezing through the wheelhouse, then pop the leftover wheelhouse liner. It is recommended to remove the radiator inlet hose from the Thermostat by using hose clamp pliers, i.e., a j 38185 hose clamp pliers. Secondly, you need to remove the Thermostat Housing bolts and loosen the Thermostat Housing from the engine block. Clean and inspect the engine block's sealing surface and the Thermostat Housing. For installation, place the Thermostat Housing onto the engine block while making sure the Thermostat Housing bolts are properly installed and tightened immediately to 10 nm (89 lb in). Replace the radiator inlet hose using the j 38185 hose clamp pliers, replace the left wheelhouse liner, and lower the vehicle. Lastly, cool down the system and check all the sealing points for leakages after the ignition of the engine.
