Chevrolet Lumina Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end on Chevrolet Lumina?
A: The prevailing torque nut requires removal from the outer tie rod assembly through use of universal steering linkage puller (J24319-01). Using the puller tool again remove the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle by first loosening the jam nut of the inner tie rod assembly . After disconnecting the outer tie rod assembly you should remove it from the inner tie rod assembly . When building the assembly link the outer tie rod assembly to the inner tie rod while leaving the jam nut loose. When attaching the outer tie rod assembly to the Steering Knuckle maintain a smooth orientation for the Rack and Pinion Boot to prevent improper toe adjustment. The recommended manufacturer specs should guide inner tie rod adjustments through inner tie rod rotation. Tighten the prevailing torque nut onto the outer tie rod stud to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) before adding an additional 115 degrees of rotation. Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod until torque reaches 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.).
