Chevrolet Metro A/C Expansion Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on Chevrolet Metro?
A: Starting the expansion valve replacement requires removal of both the Evaporator from the vehicle and subsequent removal of this part from inside the Evaporator. The r-134a manifold gauge set (J 39183-C) receives the expansion valve connection while attaching the charging hose to a refrigerant-134a refrigerant drum. Dip the expansion valve remote bulb into water followed by shutting both high pressure and low pressure valves. Open the valve that leads to the refrigerant drum then adjust the high pressure valve to reach 5 kg/sq cm (70 psi). The pressure indicators on the low pressure gauge and the water temperature measurement should be checked using a thermometer. Check the pressure-to-temperature relationship for the specified acceptable range because failure to meet these parameters indicates replacement of the expansion valve. When installing the expansion valve it should be connected to the Evaporator and the Evaporator case should be reinstalled to the vehicle.
