  A: Installation of the new power steering pump shaft oil seal must be done using a socket and a hammer before beginning the repair process. Apply power steering fluid GM P/N 12346143 equivalent to the pump shaft followed by attachment of the pump shaft pulley to the pump body. Place the same fluid on the new O-rings before putting them into position on the pump body. Position the side plate against the pump body by verifying that its pin grooves match up with the cover bolt holes. Place the new rotor on the pump shaft while applying power steering fluid to its sliding surface before mounting it with its dent marked section toward the pump cover. The installation of the pump shaft snap ring into the proper position requires a fluid application step onto the cam ring sliding surface followed by installation starting with the side marked as number 5 facing toward the side plate. Anti-friction fluid should be applied on each vane plate before installing them onto the rotor with the R portion facing away from the unit. Install the new O-ring at the rear cover of the pump body after applying fluid to its surfaces. Secure the pump cover through 4 bolts by tightening them to 24 Nm (17.5 ft. lbs.).
