Chevrolet Metro Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the tie rod end on Chevrolet Metro?
A: Start the Tie Rod End service procedure by lifting and placing support under the vehicle. Soak and remove the wheel assembly with its linked tires from the front side of the vehicle. Start by removing the cotter pin along with the castle nut attached to the outer tie rod . You can disengage the outer tie rod from the knuckle using the Tie Rod End remover (J 21687-02). You should use paint to note down the position of the inner tie rod thread and the tie rod lock nut for alignment purposes. After loosening the tie rod lock nut you should remove the outer tie rod segment from around the inner tie rod piece. When assembling the system direct the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod while matching their corresponding marks. Never loosen the castle nut during the process of inserting a cotter pin. Use the castle nut to join the outer tie rod with the Steering Knuckle before tightening it to 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.) which will position the cotter pin slot correctly against the ball stud hole. Insert and fasten the cotter pin into position before bending its two ends around the castle nut. After reattachment of the front tire and wheel assembly perform wheel alignment measurement before adjusting the front toe to its proper specification.
