  A: The first step to replace parking brake shoes includes releasing the park brake if engaged then raising the vehicle before wheel and tire removal. The removal process begins with detaching the park brake cable off the park brake lever without disconnecting the brake caliper and mounting bracket. Secure these components next to each other after moving them away from the original placement. Move on to removing the combination of rear brake caliper and bracket assembly after which you can eliminate the rear brake rotor. You should use denatured alcohol to clean the park brake shoe assembly before drying it with non-lubricated filtered compressed air. The disengagement of the park brake shoe from the hold down spring is achieved by sliding it downward followed by lifting it away from the backing plate before the actuation mechanism can be accessed.
