    A: Begin the Brake Shoe replacement process after acquiring both j 38400 Brake Shoe spanner & spring remover and j 21177-a drum to Brake Shoe clearance gage. A mechanic should start their Brake Shoe replacement procedure by eliminating the rear Brake Drum followed by using denatured alcohol to clean the rear brake shoes. The brake shoes need adjustment at their lowest position to lower the retractor spring tension before extracting the adjuster assembly. A pair of channel locks should be used to extract the retractor spring from the secondary Brake Shoe before separating the backing plate from the secondary Brake Shoe. Follow this same installation process for the primary Brake Shoe while also removing its return spring during the operation. To release the park brake cable lock use a small flat-blade screwdriver and hold it while pressing the lock tab. Next pull the park brake cable forward to unlock it from the retainer. Pull the park brake cable from the lever yet maintain attachment of the park brake return spring to the lever.
