Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Coolant Temperature Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on Chevrolet Silverado 3500?
    A:
Before changing the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor start by draining the cooling system to a level below the ECT sensor. First disconnect the electrical connector of the ECT sensor then remove the ECT sensor. Before installing the new sensor verify that the replacement parts hold the correct part numbers for the application. Using the old sensor requires the threaded surface to receive GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or an equivalent suspect as a sealant. Tighten the Installated ECT sensor to a torque specification of 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector along with refilling the cooling system. When working with the coolant sensor handle it with care since any damage will impact fuel control system functionality while strict torque recommendations must be followed to prevent any damage to components.
