Chevrolet Suburban 2500 Muffler Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the muffler on 6.01- and 8.1-engines on Chevrolet Suburban 2500?
A: The j 38185 hose clamp pliers should be used to start Muffler replacement on 6.01- and 8.1-engines by disassembling the rear tires and wheels and the oil pan skid plate bolts and plate if required but also requiring the spare tire to be removed. When dealing with rpo z55 vehicles disconnect the chassis harness from the electronic suspension rear position sensor and rear shock but avoid separating the rear suspension sensor link rods from their ball studs on the rear position sensor. Detach the sensor link rods at the left and right sides of the sensors through manual support of the lever and link rod twist motions at the ball stud points. Before lowering the rear axle position use adjustable jack stands beneath it. The 8.6 or 9.5-inch ring gear requires removal of rear axle vent hose followed by the removal of the vent hose swivel clip from the rear brake crossover pipe. Use the same method for ring gears measuring 10.5 inches but repeat the same steps. Proceed with removing the lower bolts and nuts from the rear Shock Absorbers then lower the rear axle slightly with adjustable jack stands before unclipping the oxygen sensor connector from the frame. Remove cpa retainers and electrical connectors from oxygen sensors while repeating the step as required. Owners with a 6.01-engine should disconnect both the oxygen sensor connector from the frame and the cpa retainer and the oxygen sensor electrical connector. First loosen the exhaust Muffler nuts before you release the exhaust pipe clamp and obtain help to lift the exhaust Muffler while removing the insulators from the frame hangers. To replace or service the Muffler you must slide it backward to disconnect from the Catalytic Converter then take away the insulators from hangers along with the exhaust manifold pipe gasket along with removing the oxygen sensor if you plan to replace the Muffler. To replace the Muffler follow these instructions: install the original oxygen sensor while applying gm p/n 12377953 or equivalent anti-seize compound to its threads and tighten to 42 nm (31 ft. Lbs.). Apply a lubricant to the insulators before mounting them on Muffler hangers followed by installation of a new exhaust manifold pipe gasket. Install the Muffler forward while supported by another person to attach it to the Catalytic Converter then insert the hanger insulators to their respective positions and torques the exhaust Muffler nuts to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) the exhaust pipe needs tightening with a torque of 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) along with the exhaust pipe clamp. The oxygen sensor electrical connector should be connected with the cpa retainer while clipping the oxygen sensor connector to frame and support according to needs. Use adjustable jack stands to lift the rear axle before installing and tightening to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.) the rear Shock Absorber lower bolts and nuts.next remove the jack stands and reinstall the wheel. To install the rear axle vent hose on vehicles with 10.5-inch ring gear you must attach the vent hose swivel clip to the rear brake crossover pipe. Connect the vent hose swivel clip to the brake crossover pipe and install the rear axle vent hose for both an 8.6 or 9.5-inch ring gear. Vehicle owners with rpo z55 should use the j 38185 hose clamp pliers to mount sensor link rods onto ball studs on sensor levers. Reinstall your spare tire and oil pan skid plate with bolts and tighten them to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) after that, connect the chassis harness to both the electronic suspension rear position sensor and rear shock unit.the link rods should be installed onto sensors using j 38185 hose clamp pliers before connecting them to ball studs on sensor levers.
