The first step for replacement of the left Exhaust Manifold involves removal of the wheelhouse panel. A one-half turn clockwise twist on the
Spark Plug boot will let you release it and you should grip only the boot portion to protect the wire. To begin pull off the
Spark Plug Wires from both the spark plugs and
Ignition Coils. Then continue by removing the spark plugs. First raise and support the vehicle before removing the bolts and nuts from the Exhaust Manifold heat shield to separate the left Exhaust Manifold heat shield from its position. The work sequence begins by lowering the vehicle before experts remove Exhaust Manifold bolts and nuts to finally extract the Exhaust Manifold from position. Dispose of the old Exhaust Manifold Gasket along with checking the manifold for reuse only if the condition allows. Use a new gasket to mount the Exhaust Manifold before tightening the Exhaust Manifold bolt to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.) and the nuts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). After another vehicle lift you can install the Exhaust Manifold heat shield using proper bolt and nut arrangement which requires tightening to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Use the vehicle hoist to lower it down before inserting spark plugs and taking care to completely install the Spark Plug wire by pushing on its exposed boot section rather than using metal heat shields. Reinstall the wheelhouse panel while connecting the Spark Plug Wires to both spark plugs and ignition coils.
