How to replace the starter motor on Chevrolet Tahoe?

Start by disconnecting the vehicle's negative Battery Cable when replacing the Starter motor. Before beginning start by lifting the vehicle then take out the oil pan skid plate (if it has one). The next step requires removal of both the transmission cover bolt and Starter bolts. Use protective gloves to disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the oil level sensor while protecting the Starter from hanging by cables or wires and instead using a rope or mechanics wire. The correct supply for support should consist of either a rope or mechanics wire. Move the Starter so it passes the transmission then place it in a proper support position. Lower the vehicle halfway then remove the right front wheel and tire from the vehicle. Under the right wheel well opening complete the removal of the engine wiring harness lead nut and the lead terminal from the Starter. First unscrew the frame-mounted Starter solenoid cable clip bolt followed by disconnecting the solenoid cable nut and then removing the Starter solenoid cable. Drive the Starter outside of the wheel well opening. To replace the Starter first snap off transmission cover then remove the Starter heat shield. After installing a new Starter the technician must first install the Starter heat shield then use their hand to snap the transmission cover onto the Starter unit. Feed the Starter through the wheel well access point before connecting the solenoid cable to the Starter unit while torqueing the cable nut to a tightness of 9 nm (80 lb in). Next install the Starter solenoid cable clip to the frame while torquing the clip bolt to 10 nm (89 lb in). Insert the engine wiring harness lead terminal onto the Starter component while tightening the lead nut to 3.4 nm torque value (30 lb in). Place the Starter into position then install and tighten Starter bolts to 50 nm (37 lb ft). After reinstalling the right front wheel and tire, lift the vehicle before reconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the oil level sensor. Installation of the transmission cover bolt requires a 9 nm (80 lb in) torque specification followed by oil pan skid plate reinstallation when present and negative Battery Cable reconnection.
