Chevrolet Tracker A/C Expansion Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on Chevrolet Tracker?
A: The refrigerant must be discharged before recovery for replacement of the thermal expansion valve. The first step includes removing the bolt from the expansion valve as you twist the plate counterclockwise to free up the evaporator inlet and outlet tubes from the expansion valve. After removing the 2 expansion valve securing bolts you can pull the valve from the evaporator while discarding the O-rings. New O-rings need oil application using mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil before they can be positioned onto the evaporator when reinstalling the expansion valve. Use the 2 bolts to install the expansion valve followed by reattaching the tubes from the evaporator inlet and outlet to the valve position. Use clockwise motion on the plate before installing the bolt which must be tightened to a torque of 35 N.m (26 lb ft). Conduct the evacuation and recharging of refrigerant followed by testing the A/C system to verify for leaks within the system.
