  The procedure starts by raising the vehicle then adding support before wheel removal followed by drum removal. Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover tool (J 38400) enables the adjuster spring removal by opening its loop from the adjuster actuator tab before separating both ends from the adjuster actuator and secondary Brake Shoe. The tool is used again to detach the return spring from the primary Brake Shoe by pulling it toward the axle until breaking occurs. Remove the primary Brake Shoe followed by adjuster actuator and adjuster from the secondary Brake Shoe and finally the park brake actuator. Use the Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover (J 38400) to detach the return spring from the secondary Brake Shoe by applying the same method of prying it off. Clean all parts with denatured alcohol before inspecting brakes for replacement or repair of worn and damaged parts. Ensure proper inspection of the Wheel Cylinder and dust boot condition before repairing or replacing any found defects. Before installation, apply approved brake lubricant at six locations on the backing plate and adjuster screw threads and adjuster socket inside diameter. Use the Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover (J 38400) to put the return spring within the secondary Brake Shoe after both pieces go onto the backing plate. Mount the park brake actuator onto the secondary Brake Shoe so that the adjuster mechanism binds correctly. The adjuster screw installation should be followed by lubricating the adjuster actuator/primary Brake Shoe interface before securing the adjuster actuator on the primary Brake Shoe. Position the primary Brake Shoe attached with the adjuster actuator onto the backing plate while ensuring complete contact between parts. After cleaning with j 38400 tool install the return spring inside the primary Brake Shoe being cautious about adjuster spring stretching. Finish your work by setting the adjuster spring with its straight end at the secondary Brake Shoe position while placing the loop end onto the adjuster actuator. After adjusting brake shoes and cable the actuator starts the brake spread followed by Brake Drum installation and tire and wheel placement before lowering the vehicle.
