Begin the Crankshaft balancer replacement process by taking off the cooling fan and Drive Belt followed by vehicle suspension and support. Before tightening the Crankshaft balancer eliminate the service slot plug since the balancer does not have a key-way feature which might allow Crankshaft rotation leading to incorrect torque results. Put the en 46547 inside the flywheel teeth before lowering the vehicle to remove the Crankshaft balancer bolt which should be discarded. Put the j 41816-2 on the Crankshaft end and avoid pulling the outer Crankshaft balancer edge but install a 3 jaw puller to remove the balancer. Beginning with the removal of the j 41816-2, you must extract the Crankshaft balancer friction washer found at the end of the balancer or on the Crankshaft before proceeding with cleaning and inspection of the balancer. The gm p/n 12573950 Crankshaft balancer friction washer should be placed at the end of the balancer before using the j 41478 installation tool. Position the Crankshaft balancer washer along with a fresh bolt on the assembly before using j 45059 to tighten the bolt to 150 nm while rotating the bolt 180°. Proceed with vehicle lifting before taking out the en 46547 from the flywheel teeth. Then install the service slot plug after vehicle descent and finish with Drive Belt and cooling fan installation.
