GMC Canyon Wheel Hub Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the wheel hub and speed sensor on GMC Canyon?
A: Caution: service the Wheel Hub and speed sensor only after raising the vehicle. Begin by removing the wheel drive shaft nut if present then remove the front Brake Caliper Bracket. Disconnect the antilock brake system (ABS) speed sensor wiring harness from the upper Control Arm then detach and remove its front retaining bolt from the speed sensor bracket on the upper Control Arm before finally extracting the speed sensor bracket. Place marks on the holes where the speed sensor electric connector is mounted to aid future installation. First disconnect your body from the speed sensor electrical connector then tag the speed sensor wiring harness position on the Steering Knuckle with white or bright colored paint. Start by taking off the mounting bolts securing the wheel bearing/hub and brake rotor assembly before removing the wheel bearing/hub assembly from the knuckle. Use a clean flat surface to remove wheel bearing/hub to brake rotor mounting bolts and then clean the entire bolt contact zone. Begin with sensor installation at the bearing hub position before placing the wheel bearing/hub assembly onto the brake rotor for correct mounting bolt installation. Follow a crisscross bolt tightening pattern when applying torque to 20 nm (15 lb ft) before placing the backing plate between the wheel bearing/hub and brake rotor assembly. Guide the Wheel Speed Sensor wiring harness along its reference mark on the Steering Knuckle before installing the hub bearing to the knuckle with tightening bolts set to 125 nm (92 lb ft). Place a big screwdriver in the brake caliper mounting bracket's cooling fins before tightening each brake rotor bolt in sequence to 110 nm (81 lb ft). Start by installing the wheel drive shaft nut before placing the Wheel Speed Sensor wiring harness bracket onto the upper Control Arm. Then apply 20 nm torque (14 lb ft) to the front retaining bolt for the speed sensor wiring harness. Complete the installation by placing speed sensor wiring harness retainers onto the upper Control Arm then reconnect the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector to the body and incrementally lower the vehicle.
