Brake Master Cylinder in GMC Envoy is one of the main parts of the brake system which make the change of force applied by foot to hydraulic pressure to operate the brake. Usually made of cast iron or aluminium, it consists of pistons, seals, and springs, all fitted in a bore. The fluid reservoir is usually nylon or plastic and bolts onto the top of the master cylinder body and are sealed with O-rings. In GMC Envoy models, the Brake Master Cylinder is additionally mounted at the front side of the vacuum power booster. When the brake pedal is pressed, the pushrod exerts pressure on the pistons and it in turns compresses the brake fluid. A return spring on release shifts the pistons in a backward direction thus allowing the provision of the fluid. Since 1967 there have been dual circuit master cylinders with two pistons in order to separate the failure in one hydraulic system. As the years pass by, it is common for the Brake Master Cylinder to show signs of leaks, and internal brake failure brought by corrosion or seal problem. Some of the preventive measures which should be taken include: The practice of routine check up of the hydraulic system for fluid leaks and ensuring that the system has no moisture content is prudent. To appropriately control hydraulic force and pressure application, the GMC Envoy's Brake Master Cylinder is a system required for stable and secure braking.

GMC Envoy Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake master cylinder on GMC Envoy?
    A:
To prepare for the Brake Master Cylinder replacement you should push then release your Brake Pedal repeatedly until it becomes stiff to empty the vacuum reserve of a power vacuum Brake Booster. Empty the brake fluid from the Brake Master Cylinder reservoir with a proper tool and place it in an authorized storage unit. Unplug the master cylinder sensor electrical connector and take off the secondary brake pipe fitting from the master cylinder. Use fitting caps and plastic plugs to seal and protect brake lines from fluid loss. You must detach the master cylinder primary brake pipe fitting then secure it with a cap and stop the outlet port's access. Unfasten the master cylinder nuts and take out the master cylinder . After that remove the o-ring seal from the master cylinder. Position properly the o-ring seal in its groove on the power vacuum Brake Booster before installing the master cylinder into the booster with the master cylinder first and then the o-ring seal. Fasten the master cylinder nuts with a torque setting of 36 nm (27 lb ft). Join the secondary brake pipe to the master cylinder with 32 nm (24 lb ft) torque and then link the master cylinder primary brake pipe with 32 nm (24 lb ft) torque as well. Complete the system by joining the master cylinder fluid level sensor wiring and running hydraulic brake fluid through the network.
