How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter on GMC Jimmy?

The first step of servicing or repairing the a/t fluid filter requires you to place the vehicle properly in the lifting position. A drain pan should be positioned under the transmission Oil Pan before removing its Drain Plug. Any service on the a/t fluid filter requires removal of the Oil Pan bolts followed by removing the Oil Pan and its gasket. Lift out the fluid filter as well as the seal while keeping the seal for further use. A small amount of transmission assembly lubricant (J36850) or equivalent must be applied to the seal before installing the new filter neck seal into the transmission case as well as the filter. When installing both the new Oil Pan and gasket users should tighten the Oil Pan to transmission case bolts to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). The threads of the Oil Pan Drain Plug require a small amount of gm p/n 12346004 sealant before installation and subsequent tightening to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle before completing the fluid addition except for dexron iii automatic transmission fluid at its correct level.
