How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
    A:
Beginning an automatic transmission fluid and filter replacement requires first that technicians raise and support the vehicle. Access will become possible after removing the Catalytic Converter. A drain pan should be installed under the transmission oil pan and you should remove the Drain Plug when fitted. Detach the range selector cable bracket bolts only if needed for clearance before lowering the pan while maintaining the cable connection. Start by removing bolts from the front and sides of the oil pan and turn the bolts at the back approximately 4 turns. You can drain transmission fluid from the oil pan by lightly tapping it with a rubber mallet before removing all remaining bolts and the oil pan along with its gasket. Grab the filter with care before twisting until it slips out and extract the filter seal by using pliers to unlock it when needed. You should examine the fluid color and check for clutch material along with bronze slivers or steel particles in the filter before discarding the seal. The transmission case along with Oil Pan Gasket surfaces require solvent cleaning before air drying until no residue from the old gasket remains visible. Spread automatic transmission fluid onto the new filter seal before placing it into the transmission case by using a suitable socket for installation. After installing the new filter, install the oil pan with its new gasket while tightening bolt specifications of 11 n.m (97 lb in) after alternately adjusting the torque. Replace the range selector cable bracket and firmly tighten its bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Use gm p/n 12346004 sealant to treat the oil pan Drain Plug threads before tightening it to 18 n.m (13 lb ft). Place the new Catalytic Converter then lower the vehicle down before filling the transmission with dexron(R) iii transmission fluid while checking only the initial cold fluid level. Conclude the inspection by checking the Oil Pan Gasket to detect leaks.

How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter for the 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E on Cadillac Escalade EXT? Posted by Customer
    A:
The service and repair work on a 4l60-e/4l65-e/4l70-e transmission fluid filter requires caretaking the vehicle and placing a drain pan where the transmission oil pan is located. The range selector cable bracket needs to be set aside by removing its bolts after positioning it to the side if you need to lower the pan without detaching the cable. Start by removing the Catalytic Converter followed by the first and secondary oil pan bolts from the front and sides and by unscrewing the rear bolts approximately four full turns. A rubber mallet provides assistance to drain the oil from the pan while you remove all bolts and the pan assembly with its gasket. Wipe the filter out to detach it from the pump while discarding the seal of the filter that might need pliers to break free if it is stuck. Observe the fluid color and analyze the filter for clutch debris as well as bronze debris from worn bushings and steel fragments. Wash the transmission case and Oil Pan Gasket surfaces with solvent while making sure that all old gasket material disappears from the surfaces. Place automatic transmission fluid on the new filter seal then insert it with a proper size socket before mounting the new filter. The attachment of an oil pan with new gasket requires bolt tightening to 11 n.m (97 lb in) using an even and alternate pattern followed by Catalytic Converter reinstallation. Check that the range selector cable bracket installation by torquing its mounting bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Use gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or its equivalent sealant on the oil pan Drain Plug threads before lowering the suspension to fill the transmission with dexron(R) vi fluid while monitoring the initial cold fluid mark and assessing the Oil Pan Gasket.

    Q:
How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should lift and stabilize your vehicle while setting a drain pan under the Oil Pan of the transmission. If equipped with an Oil Pan Drain Plug you must remove it but you can maintain the range selector cable bracket in place by releasing the bolts so that the pan drops lower. Use a rubber mallet to tap the Oil Pan while gently loosening rear bolt while you match the procedure from the front side with bolt removal of the Oil Pan. Finally turn off the drainage stopper and remove all Oil Pan bolts before separating the combination of Oil Pan and gasket. Grasp the filter tightly while twisting it to unfasten it then remove the filter seal by using pliers if the seal is resistant to removal. The seal removal step needs to be followed by examining the fluid color and filter for any signs of clutch material and bronze slivers or steel particles. Use solvent to clean the transmission case as well as the Oil Pan gasket surfaces until all previous gasket material is eliminated. Use automatic transmission fluid to cover the new filter seal before putting it into the transmission case appropriately with a suitable size socket. You should begin by mounting the new filter then add the Oil Pan with its new gasket before evenly tightening the transmission case bolts against the Oil Pan to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). The range selector cable bracket installation requires reinstallation after which you must tighten its bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Sealant (GM P/N 12346004) should be applied to the Drain Plug threads on the Oil Pan when equipped before installing and securing the plug with 18 nm (13 ft lbs). To correctly fill the transmission, lower the vehicle while using dexron iii transmission fluid but only check the cold fluid level during the initial fill process. Assess for any leaks around the Oil Pan gasket.

How to replace the Automatic Transmission Filter on Chevrolet Blazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Support and raise the vehicle next to an appropriate drain pan positioned underneath the transmission oil pan. The transmission oil pan can be lowered by unscrewing its Drain Plug if present along with removing bracket bolts to hold the range selector cable bracket out of the way but keeping the cable intact. Focus on removing bolts from the front and side sections of the oil pan while releasing the rear bolts by four turns. A rubber mallet tapping motion will help the oil pan to release and drain fluid before removing the last bolts that detach the oil pan together with its gasket. Grasp the filter firmly before twisting it to remove and subsequently remove the filter seal while pliers may be needed to dislodge possible seals. Begin by removing the rubber seal. Later on, check the fluid state along with the filter for both clutch material debris as well as bronze slivers and steel particles. Immerse the transmission case and oil pan gasket surfaces using solvent until all remnants of old gasket material are completely gone. Found the new filter seal in automatic transmission fluid and hand-position it correctly inside the transmission case using appropriate socket tools. Install the new filter before putting on the oil pan with its new gasket while tightening the transmission case bolts to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.) in a alternating and even manner. The range selector cable bracket should be reinstalled with its bolts secured to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Treat the oil pan Drain Plug threads with gm p/n 12346004 sealant before installing the plug by tightening it to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle while adding dexron iii transmission fluid to achieve the proper fluid level but check the cold fluid level first during the first fill-up and inspect the oil pan gasket for any signs of leaking.

    Q:
How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for auto transmission fluid and filter replacement involves raising the vehicle while providing support to it. Pulling at the boot part of the range selector cable should be avoided at all times. Users can disconnect the range selector cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud by inserting a flat bladed tool between the range selector cable end and the range selector lever . The cable end will separate from the lever when the tool is applied. The transmission range selector cable bracket requires removal of its bolts before setting it away during transmission pan lowering. Set a proper container beneath the transmission Oil Pan then unscrew the bolts at the front and sides before turning the rear bolts four times. The combination of gentle mallet strikes on the Oil Pan along with the transmission fluid will drain into the prepared container. After removing all the bolts from the Oil Pan you can separate the Oil Pan along with its gasket. Ungently rotate the filter while pulling it off before removing the seal to discard it when needed. Examine the fluid while inspecting the filter to evaluate whether it contains signs of bushing wear or clutch material or steel particles. After cleaning transmission case and Oil Pan Gasket surfaces with solvent the surfaces need to dry out completely while removing any residual gasket material. Install the transmission case filter seal by whethering the seal with clean automatic transmission fluid and using a suitable socket to tap it into its proper position. After installing the new filter position the new Oil Pan that comes with its gasket while securing all bolts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) by adapting a twisting pattern. The separator of used transmission liquid should be removed before the technician positions the transmission range selector cable bracket and bolts it down with 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) of torque. The automatic transmission range selector cable needs adjustments before lowering the vehicle for fluid addition using dexron (R) iii transmission fluid at the correct level except during first fill when only cold fluid level should be evaluated. Check for any Oil Pan Gasket leaks as your last step.

    Q:
How to replace the Automatic Transmission Filter on Chevrolet S10? Posted by Customer
    A:
A vehicle service technician should begin automatic transmission fluid/filter replacement by lifting and stabilizing the vehicle then placing a drain pan positioned beneath the transmission oil pan. The range selector cable bracket needs to be positioned aside through bolt removal while the technician removes the transmission oil pan Drain Plug and lowers the pan. Remove bolts installed at the oil pan front and sides but leave the rear bolts partially tight by turning them 4 times. You should use a rubber mallet to make gentle strikes on the oil pan which will create fluid drainage before you remove the remaining bolts and take out the oil pan together with its gasket. A proper grip of the filter allows you to pull it down with twisting motion to remove it before using pliers to get rid of the stubborn filter seal. Decompose the seal before examining both transmission fluid color and the filter for signposts of clutch material degradation along with bronze fragments for bushing wear and steel fragments as the only acceptable findings. The transmission case along with the Oil Pan Gasket surfaces require cleaning with solvent and their air drying process must complete removal of old gasket material. Apply automatic transmission fluid to the new filter seal before inserting it into the transmission housing through the use of a proper-sized socket for installation. Mount the new filter onto position before installing the oil pan assembly with its new gasket. Sealed tightly every other bolt on the oil pan to transmission case surface at 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). The range selector cable bracket must be reinstated and its bolts should be tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). A small amount of gm p/n 12346004 sealant should be applied to the Drain Plug threads on the oil pan before tightening it to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Add dexron (R) iii transmission fluid into the system to reach proper level when the vehicle is lowered down but check the cold fluid measurement during the first addition while also checking for any oil leaks from the new Oil Pan Gasket.

How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on Chevrolet SSR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin replacing automatic transmission fluid and filter by securely lifting the vehicle then placing a drain pan under the transmission Oil Pan. If equipped with an Oil Pan Drain Plug you should remove that plug first then take the necessary steps to free up space by removing bolts securing the range selector cable bracket before using a drain pan to lower the pan without disconnecting the cable. Use a rubber mallet to drain fluid by tapping the Oil Pan while applying 4 turns of looseness to the rear bolts. Remove Oil Pan bolts from the front and side only. Drain completion allows the removal of remaining Oil Pan bolts before taking off both the pan and its gasket. Start by firmly clutching the filter until you can pull it down with a twisting motion before extracting the filter seal using pliers since it may be difficult to remove. The inspection process requires removal of the seal to examine fluid color while checking the filter for transmission material and examining it for bronze slivers and steel particles. Soak both the transmission case and Oil Pan gasket surfaces with solvent before removing all remaining old gasket material. Automatic transmission fluid must coat the new filter seal before installing it into the transmission case through the usage of a suitable socket to secure correct seating. Install the Oil Pan with a new gasket by tightening the transmitting case bolts gradually to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.) alternately. You should reinstall the range selector cable bracket but ensure to tighten its bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). A tiny amount of gm p/n 12346004 sealant should be applied to the Oil Pan Drain Plug threads when present before installing the plug and tightening it to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle then fill the transmission properly with dexron(r) iii transmission fluid while checking only the initial cold fluid level during the first fill-up and inspect the Oil Pan gasket for possible leaks.

How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to perform automatic transmission fluid replacement involves raising the vehicle and establishing support underneath it. A flat-bladed tool should be used to disconnect the range selector cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud at its ending point on the lever. Once the end is pried away, remove bolts securing the transmission range selector cable bracket to the transmission. Move the bracket to increase clearance before dropping the pan while placing the suitable receptacle under the transmission Oil Pan. Start by removing all front and side Oil Pan bolts followed by a loose rotation of the rear bolts by 4 turns before gently striking the Oil Pan with a rubber mallet to allow fluid to drain into the collecting container. Remove all present Oil Pan bolts before removing the Oil Pan along with its gasket. Check if the filter needs pliers to be removed before discarding it with the rest of the materials. Your examination should include looking at the fluid's color while you evaluate the filter for both bushing wear and clutch material as well as steel particles. Use solvent to clean transmission case as well as Oil Pan Gasket surfaces until you remove all remaining old gasket material. Allow these surfaces to air dry naturally before proceeding. Using clean automatic transmission fluid to coat the new filter seal leads to its successful installation into the transmission case by tapping it with an appropriate socket. Place the new filter first; after that put the new Oil Pan using its gasket and apply equal and alternating torque pressure of 16 n.m (12 lb ft) on all transmission case bolts. Insert the container used to catch used transmission fluid elsewhere and reinstall the transmission range selector cable bracket before securing its bolts at 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Adjust the automatic transmission range selector cable before lowering the vehicle to properly fill it with dexron(R) iii transmission fluid at the cold fluid mark during first filling. Check for any leaks near the Oil Pan Gasket during the final step.
