Q: How to replace the radiator fan and fan shroud on GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Before removing the Radiator fan and shroud, drain the cooling system with the method appropriate for it. Then disconnect the upper Radiator Hose from the Radiator and take out the air inlet duct. Unclip the Radiator inlet hose clip from the fan shroud, and as needed, move or remove the surge tank inlet hose from the Radiator. Unplug the electrical connectors from the Radiator fans and disconnect the clip that holds the wiring harness on the shroud. Uninstall the transmission cooler lines bolts from the fan shroud and, if necessary, open the engine oil cooler line clip to take out cooler lines. Then, undo the Radiator fan shroud bolts and remove the Radiator fan and shroud. For installation, place the 3 lower tabs of the Radiator fan and shroud into the Radiator support flange while ensuring that the shroud remains parallel to the Radiator. Attach the Radiator fan and shroud, and tighten the Radiator fan shroud bolts to 9 nm (80 lb in). If equipped, install the cooler lines to the clip and secure it, connect the electrical connections to the Radiator fans and attach the wiring harness clip to the shroud. Fit the transmission cooling line bolts to the fan shroud tightening to 4 nm (35 lb in). Reinstall and relocate the surge tank inlet hose and clamp to the Radiator, secure the fan shroud end of the Radiator inlet hose clip, and reattach the upper Radiator Hose. Lastly, reinstall the air inlet duct and fill the cooling system applying the proper method.
