A: The first step to replace the Shift Knob requires application of the parking brake followed by removal of the floor console left extension panel. Use an electric connector plier to disconnect the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector then turn the key to the run position while keeping the vehicle engine off. A flat bladed tool must be inserted behind the trim ring to separate it from the Shift Knob allowing an approximate 13.0 mm (0.5 in) drop of the Shift Knob to reveal the retaining screw. Begin unscrewing the Shift Knob screw by 4-5 turns keeping the electrical harness of the transmission tap up/tap down switch past the shift control indicator while you take out the Shift Knob. After guiding the Shift Knob to its position on the shift control lever you need to pass both the electrical harness and connector through the indicator again. Attach the knob screw which had been taken off and secure it at 4 n.m (35 lb in). Clicks will signal that the Shift Knob trim ring has properly secured to the knob after being lifted over it. The transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector can be attached when the key is in off position and the shift control lever is set to park position. The operator should inspect shift control functioning across all gear ranges then put back the floor console left extension panel before letting go of the parking brake.
