How to replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor on GMC Sierra 3500 Classic?

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor replacement starts with draining the cooling system until it settles below the sensor. After disconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the ECT sensor remove the sensor. During new sensor installation verify it matches the correct part number and apply GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent sealant to the sensor threads when reusing the previous sensor. Tighten the ECT sensor until it reaches 20 N.m of torque (15 lb ft). Hook the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the ECT sensor before pumping cooling system fluid into the system.
