How to Safely Handle and Replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on GMC Yukon?

To replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, you need to drain the cooling system up to a level below the ECT sensor. Remove the wiring harness electrical connector from the ECT sensor and then remove the sensor. When installing the new sensor make sure the replacement parts are of correct part number for the application and any thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or any sealants that are specified for application must be applied as specified because they can influence final torque and operation of parts. In the case of using the old sensor, apply sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canada P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the threads. Install the ECT sensor and tighten 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Finally, bolt the engine wiring harness electrical connector onto the ECT sensor and top off the cooling system.
