    Q: How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate on the 15 Series and 1500 Series on GMC Yukon XL 1500?
    A: Begin replacing the 15 series and 1500 series rear disc Brake Backing Plate by releasing the parking brake then raising the car. Use appropriate support methods to avoid damage. Separate the tire and wheel by raising them and release the park brake cables' pressure through equalizer nut adjustment. Press down the locking tabs to remove the rear park brake cable from its mountings on the park brake actuator lever until you can pull it off the lever. After removing the rotor you must take off the Axle Shaft and park brake shoe before unscrewing the backing plate bolts to extract the backing plate from the axle housing flange. Install the backing plate on the axle housing flange with a correct thread preparation using brake parts cleaner plus threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 or red loctite tm #272 applied to the threads before tightening to 135 nm (100 ft. Lbs). Place the new park brake shoe and Axle Shaft into position and change the park brake shoe settings as needed. Finally attach the rotor. .thread the park brake cable back into the mounting bracket until locking tabs lock into position. Then connect the end of the cable to the park brake actuator lever. Install the tire and wheel assembly afterward and take away safety stands before lowering the vehicle and adjustment the park brake cable.
