    Q:
How to replace the Cam Gear for Bank 2 (Left) Exhaust on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove both parts of the left exhaust Camshaft position actuator to install its replacement. Pull the actuator forward to free its Camshaft alignment pin then remove the secondary Timing Chain before taking out the actuator from its position. You will insert the Camshaft alignment pin hole in the actuator backplate at its corresponding position. Match the actuator timing gears with the secondary Timing Chain by placing the actuator's front timing mark on the paint mark of a chain link. Apply the actuator over its Camshaft pin and place it on the Camshaft. Install the left exhaust Camshaft position actuator oil control valve afterward.

    Q:
How to replace the primary cam gear and timing chain on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the timing chain and sprockets, first, assemble all necessary tools, including the crankshaft socket (J 39946). Start with the removal of the Oil Pump, then when aligning to the timing chain specifications use the crankshaft socket (J 39946). Next, pull off the secondary chains camshaft drive, followed by the timing chain tensioner, oil outlet tube, and, finally, the camshaft guide chains and bolts. Set camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt and remove the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, and camshaft intermediate sprocket assembly. Clean and check the camshaft timing drive components before moving to install. Register the timing (pressing marks) of camshaft intermediate and sprocket of crankshaft, and install the timing chain on drive sprockets. Install the timing chain; crankshaft sprocket; and camshaft intermediate sprocket as an assembly. Rotate the crankshaft by using the crankshaft socket (J 39946) until the key way is at the 1 o'clock position. Tighten the camshaft intermediate sprocket bolt slightly to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.), after which, fit the timing chain guide and allow the bolts to tighten to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Mount the timing chain tensioner followed by the oil outlet tube and bolts that need to be tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Finally, fit secondary camshaft drive chains, remove pin from timing chain tensioner release lever, then make sure that the timing marks align vertically and the Oil Pump back into place.
