    Q:
How to service and repair the front brake calipers (single piston) on Chevrolet Blazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to repairing a single Piston front brake caliper involves emptying all its brake fluid. Insert one wood chip or two shop towels between the Piston brush and the caliper before covering the caliper with a shop rag. Introduce only enough compressed air into the caliper to push out the Piston before taking away both the shop rag and the wood or towels. Use a non-metallic tool to get rid of the front brake caliper boot and push out the front Brake Caliper Piston seal. Clean the bleeder valve and brake caliper body bore with denatured alcohol before pulling the bleeder valve off its position. When corrosion stays after cleaning you must replace both the caliper housing and Piston. Use crocus cloth as usual to free the brake caliper bore from corrosion and clean it. Then dry the parts by blasting them with filtered, oil-free compressed air. You will need to replace the brake caliper when you see damage on either the Piston surface or inside the caliper bore and also when there is corrosion on the Piston or damaged chrome plating on the Piston as well as pitting within the caliper bore. Apply clean brake fluid to the Piston assembly components then position the Piston seal correctly without distorting its groove. Insert the Piston seal first before putting on the boot and Piston into the caliper opening. Use the Piston seal installer tool j26267 to place the front caliper Piston boot correctly. Next set the bleeder valve and secure it at 12 nm (110 inch lbs.).
