    Q:
How to replace the left camshaft on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step in left Camshaft replacement consists of removing the bolt which connects the coolant heater ground lead to the Camshaft bearing cap when equipped with rpo code ka3. First extract the left Camshaft cover with the left Camshaft drive sprockets. Using the specified sequence loosen the Camshaft bearing cap bolts several turns before extracting the bolts and caps while recording the code mark sequence (R1, R2, R3, etc.). Start by removing camshafts from the Cylinder Head before extracting the Camshaft seals. Check all bearing surfaces together with sealing surfaces for cleanliness before Camshaft inspection takes place. Choose the installation Camshaft carefully and check for the stamp markings that identify each Camshaft as intake or exhaust. The Camshaft bearing surfaces and lobes require application of gm p/n 1052367 (Canadian P/N 992869) or equivalent lubricating material. The bearing cap installation loads the least when the exhaust Camshaft pin stands at one o'clock while the intake Camshaft pin is positioned at eight o'clock. Each front bearing cap of the Cylinder Head should receive gm p/n 1052942 (Canadian P/N 10953466) or equivalent to form a proper seal along its forward edge. First install the bearing caps matching the identification marks and then alternately use hand strength to tighten the bolts in order until they reach full seat followed by final torque to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). Use clean engine oil to coat the Camshaft Seal lip before inserting it with the Camshaft/front main seal installer (J35268-A) until the seal is completely seated. The installation process requires fitting left Camshaft drive sprockets together with the left Camshaft cover alongside reinstallation of the bolt securing the coolant heater ground lead to the Camshaft bearing cap. Tighten this bolt to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.).
