    Q:
How to service the catalytic converter on those weighing 8600 lbs and above on GMC C3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To access the Catalytic Converter on cars of 8600 lbs or more, you must raise and secure the car first. After unplugging the Oxygen Sensor wires, remove the nuts screwed into the y-pipe flat flange, then remove the nuts, studs and flange seals from the y-pipe and Exhaust Manifold. After that, take out the y-pipe and Catalytic Converter assembly as well as the Muffler. First, set the flange seals onto the y-pipe and Catalytic Converter on the Exhaust Manifold, then put the studs in and tighten them to 22 n.m (16 lb ft). Put on the exhaust nuts where the studs meet the Exhaust Manifold and tighten them to 64 n.m (47 lb ft). Relocate the Muffler and Catalytic Converter assembly, put the y-pipe and Catalytic Converter into the proper place on the flat flange and put the nuts on the flat flange studs, securing them to 64 n.m (47 lb ft) of torque. Once finished, secure the Oxygen Sensor connections, look for proper space and alignment and bring the car down.
