How to Replace a Heater Core in the HVAC Assembly on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
To disassemble the heater assembly, remove the hvac module from the vehicle and disconnect the heat stakes from the Heater Core cover and the Heater Core cover from the system before you can remove the Heater Core. Then, disconnect the lower hvac case heat stakes, unsnap and open the passenger compartment filter door, and take out the lower hvac case. For installation, first re-install the lower hvac case ensuring that the orifice plate is accurately positioned in the hvac module and that the lower hvac case is fully seated then install all the lower hvac case screws and torque to 1.8 n.m (15 lb in). After sealing off the filter door of the passenger compartment, check the integrity of the foam Heater Core seal on the lower hvac case and, if it's damaged, replace its with an equivalent kent industries adhesive black foam tape p/n 46480 or an equivalent. Installing Heater Core into the hvac module, followed by Heater Core cover with proper orientation and full seating before tightening the screws up to 1.8 n.m (15 lb in) and new Heater Core cover screws installation. Replace the drain tube seal and the front of dash seal, inspect and replace any damaged hvac module seals, including the defrost duct seal, hvac module to cross car duct seal, center air outlet duct seal, center floor air outlet duct seal, and air inlet seal. Finally, put back the hvac module to the vehicle, and fill the cooling system accordingly.
