    Q:
How to service and repair the brake drum on Chevrolet Express 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to service and repair the brake drum, using the J 41013 Rotor/Drum Flange Resurfacing Kit (J 41013) is ideal to clean rust off the brake drum flange. Only refinish brake drum when there is heavy scoring of the braking surface or brake pulsation as a result of out-of-round quality or deeper corrosion. Take the largest diameter measurement of the brake drum using a micrometer; If it exceeds an upper limit for refinish diameter, change the brake drum as opposed to refinish. After machining, make a non directional braking surface using 120 grit aluminum oxide sand paper. At last, clean the braking surfaces with GM P/N 12377981 or similar braking parts washdown. Make sure wheel nuts are tightly fastened to the appropriate torque specification so that no damage can occur to the brake and rotors due to the pulsation in the brake.

    Q:
How to replace non-demountable rear brake drums on GMC Savana 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Set up safe stands while lifting the vehicle to work on the non-detachable rear brake drums. Put the pin inside the park brake lever before removing the tire and wheel. Make clear marks to note the Brake Drum's position before you disassemble it. Also disconnect the retainer pieces if they exist then take off the Brake Drum. To install the drum brake align it using the relationship mark and set it on the axle and afterwards you can replace rear Brake Drum retainers if they are present. Set the new tire and wheel on the rear axle then release the park brake pin and adjust the rear brakes. Take away the safety stands and let the vehicle down to the ground. Service your wheel brake components properly by never sanding or grounding brake pads plus never cleaning with a dry brush or compressed air because some brake components may have asbestos fibers. The used cloth must be sprayed with water to remove dust before using commercial equipment that stops fiber fallout during washing.
