    Q:
How to replace the front coil springs on Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
The front coil spring replacement process starts by supporting the raised vehicle before moving on to remove the engine shield if present and then taking off the tire assembly and shock absorber followed by disconnecting the front stabilizer shaft link. Raw the coil spring compressor adapter (J 23028-15) with its outboard locating tab into position while hooking the retaining clamp onto the Control Arm shaft. Tighten the wing nut to remove any freeplay between components. Position the coil spring remover and installer (J 23028-A) onto a suitable transmission jack while ensuring the yokes match the notches on j 23028-15. The transmission jack should work in combination with both tools to release lower Control Arm pivot bolt tension before removing the lower Control Arm pivot bolt and rear pivot bolt and front pivot bolt. Use the pry bar to guide the lower Control Arm into the correct position before lowering the transmission jack to unload the front coil spring until you can remove the coil spring and insulator. Install the coil spring and insulator on the lower Control Arm while raising the transmission jack to compress the front coil spring before guiding the lower Control Arm into position using a pry bar if required. Secure the front pivot bolt and rear pivot bolt and lower Control Arm pivot nuts at 145 nm (107 ft. Lbs.). Reposition the coil spring compressor adapter (J 23028-15) from the Control Arm, after lower the jack and install each component including the front stabilizer shaft link, shock absorber, and tire and wheel assembly and engine protection shield if necessary before lowering the vehicle.
