    Q:
How to replace the upper control arm on GMC Sierra 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change the upper Control Arm, first lift and support your vehicle. To remove the tire and wheel; remove the retaining bolt for the brake hose and the wheel speed sensor brackets. Next, undo the nut at upper Ball Joint and get rid of it. With the use of the Ball Joint separator (J-42188-B), disconnect the upper Control Arm from the Steering Knuckle. For 15-series 2wd/4wd and 25/35 series 2wd: take off the upper Control Arm nuts as well as adjustment cams and the upper Control Arm nuts, followed by upper Control Arm bolts and then remove the upper Control Arm. For the 25/35 series 4wd, use the same procedure to remove the upper Control Arm as well. Firstly, place the new upper Control Arm and install the upper Control Arm bolts for the 25/35 series 4wd. Put on the upper Control Arm nuts and adjustment cams and tighten the nuts to 190 nm 140 ft lbs. Repeat the program for installing on the 25/35 series 4wd, having ensured the upper Control Arm is bolted to the steering knuck. Replace a new nut on the top of the Ball Joint stud and tighten up to 50 nm (37 ft.lbs.). Replace the retaining bolts used for brake hose and wheel speed sensor brackets, tightening them to 9 nm (80-inch lbs.). Lastly, place the tire and wheel back on, remove the safety stands, the vehicle down, and check the alignment of the wheels.
