Axle Assembly, Front Passenger Side

To replace the front axle shafts, get the vehicle up off the floor by using jackstands, unclamp the wheel and take off the tire. Detach the stabilizer shaft link, and the front Axle Shaft nut while using a drift or a flat-bladed tool so that the rotor does not rotate. Remove the front axle from the transaxle, use the j 33008 (Axle Shaft Remover), j 29794 (Extension), j 2619-01 (Slide Hammer) on the right side and frame for the left side with a flat-bladed tool uploaded into the groove on the front Axle Shaft tri-pot joint to help in separation. For installation, position the front axle into the transaxle where the retain ring is well seated. Replace the bearing and the front Axle Shaft with a new one to the front Axle Shaft, reconnect the Ball Joint or outer tie rod assembly and put a new front Axle Shaft nut that should be tightened to 160 nm (118 ft. Lbs.) at the same time as applying a drift or a flat-bladed tool to prevent the movement of the rotor. Lastly, reinstall the stabilizer shaft link, the wheel and tire, raise the vehicle, and check the transaxle fluid and wheel alignment.

The tools necessary for the servicing and repairing of the Axle Shaft are: slide hammer (J 2619-01), Axle Shaft remover extension (J 29794), Axle Shaft remover (J 33008-A), and hub spindle remover (J 42129). Start by raising the vehicle and supporting it properly, then take off the wheel and tire. Next, remove the stabilizer shaft link and the front wheel drive shaft nut, by using a drift or flat-bladed tool to stop the rotor from spinning. Loosen and remove the prix nut from the tie rod and have the assembly disconnected from the Steering Knuckle. At the same time, separate the Ball Joint from the knuckle. Use the hub spindle remover (J 42129) to disengage the front wheel drive axle from the front wheel drive shaft bearing, which will allow the nut to be partially re-installed to protect the threads. If needed, take out the left or right front wheel drive axle from the transaxle using the Axle Shaft remover (J 33008-A), Axle Shaft remover extensiont (J 29794) and the slide hammer (J 2619-01), to remove the axle from the transaxle. For installation, trace the front wheel drive axle through the transaxle making sure the retaining ring is in place. Mount the front wheel drive axle into the front wheel drive shaft bearing, reconnect the bottom joint and outside tie rod assembly, and mount a new front wheel drive shaft nut, tighten to 215 nm (159 ft. Lbs.) while generating use of a raft-bladed tool refusal to the rotor movement. Finally, install the stabilizer link bits, wheel, tire, lower the vehicle, and check the transaxle fluid and wheel alignment.

Vehicle preparation starts with elevation and proper support for Axle Shaft replacement. You need to remove first the wheel along with tire before moving onto the stabilizer shaft link. The drift or flat-bladed tool will stop the rotor from spinning during front Axle Shaft nut removal. Separate the right-side front axle from the transaxle through a combination of the j 33008 Axle Shaft remover (J 33008), j 29794 extension (J 29794), and j 2619-01 slide hammer (J 2619-01) tools while simultaneously using the frame and a flat-bladed tool in the groove on the front Axle Shaft tripot joint for the left side. The front axle must be placed into the transaxle while verifying that the retaining ring has a correct position. Place the front axle inside the front Axle Shaft bearing and reconnect the Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle before connecting the outer tie rod assembly. Carefully use each fastener on its designated spot and select correct part numbers while staying clear of torque-affecting coatings. Fasten a new front Axle Shaft nut tightly at 215 nm (159 ft. Lbs.) by placing either a drift or flat-bladed tool between the shaft and rotor. Closer inspection of transaxle fluid level and wheel alignment follows stabilizer shaft link and wheel and tire reinstallation before you lower the vehicle.

Start wheel drive shaft replacement by properly raising and supporting the vehicle. Begin the replacement by first removing the tire then the stabilizer shaft link after taking off the wheel. To install the wheel drive shaft the first step is to mount it into the transaxle position while checking engagement by pulling on the inner tripot housing. Before attaching the wheel drive shaft to the hub and bearing users must first connect the Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle and then reinstall the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector. Secure the stabilizer shaft link in place before using a drift or punch to pass through both the brake caliper and rotor for rotor and hub and bearing rotation prevention. The wheel drive shaft spindle requires its nut to achieve 160nm (118 ft. Lbs.) tightening torque before the outer Tie Rod End should be connected to the Steering Knuckle and the engine splash shield and tire and wheel assembly installation together with lowering the vehicle.

Install the Wheel Hub Remover (J 42129) onto the wheel hub and secure it with wheel nuts.

Repeat the process used for the left drive axle, then install the drive axle into the wheel bearing.
