    You must first disconnect the rear compartment lid and then eliminate the rear shelf trim panel before repairing the rear compartment lid hinge. Pull the torque rods out from their position on the hinge piece and remove hardware that holds the hinge to its spot on the car. Secure the new hinge by aligning it with the vehicle followed by fastening according to the Fastener Notice. Please fasten the hinge using nuts and bolts then tighten them to 24 N.m torque (18 lb-ft). Put the torque rods back onto their slots at the hinge and replace both the rear shelf trim panel and the rear compartment lid. Close the back compartment properly after installation.

    Before you start the replacement you need to unlock and take out the rear compartment lid. After you remove the rear shelf panel you need to take out both rear compartment torque rods. The J 41358-A Torque Rod Retaining Pin tool helps you remove the rear compartment torque rods from their proper position. Unhook the fastener that holds the front side of the rear compartment lid hinge to the vehicle plus all hinge fasteners. Replacement of the new rear compartment lid hinge starts with installation of the fastener at the forward edge and tightening to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). The second step involves installing and tightening all fasteners for the hinge to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Replace both torque rods in the rear compartment and the rear compartment lid. Test the lid alignment and verify it moves freely. Replace the rear shelf panel and lock the rear compartment at last.

Reassemble the torque rods into the rear compartment and add the rear compartment lid while checking if the lid aligns correctly plus if the torque rod moves freely. Reposition the rear shelf panel after replacing everything else.
