    Q:
How to replace the power steering hose assembly on a 4.2L engine on Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
    A:
Raising and supporting the vehicle stands as the first step to replace the 4.2l Power Steering Hose assembly. The first step includes placing a drain pan on the ground followed by removing the Power Steering Hose assembly from its bolt retaining position on the power steering gear unit. After this, disconnect the power steering gear from the assembly. The procedure continues by removing the power steering return hose and the Power Steering Cooler hose from the Power Steering Cooler. Using a floor jack lower the vehicle which allows access to the front crossmember bracket mounting bolt of the Power Steering Hose assembly. The first step involves separating the power steering pressure hose from the Power Steering Pump and the Power Steering Cooler hose from the same location. Then disconnect the fuse block wiring harnesses before removing the fuse block and battery tray. You need to remove the Power Steering Hose assembly bracket retaining bolt which is at the wheel well. Before doing so extract the retaining bolts from the frame brackets to complete the removal of the Power Steering Hose assembly from the vehicle. After supporting the vehicle you should thoroughly clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports. You should run the j44586 power steering gear oil seal remover/installer seal extraction end while using a flat bladed tool as a helping device to remove the power steering gear oil seal from the power steering gear component. The installer end of the power steering gear oil seal remover/installer (J44586) must be used to install a new oil seal until it is completely seated. Lower the vehicle then connect Power Steering Hose assembly by tightening the frame bracket retaining bolts to 10 nm using torque specifications (89 inch lbs.). The Power Steering Hose assembly bracket needs to be reinstalled onto the wheel well by tightening the retaining bolt to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Set the fuse block into place followed by the battery tray and link the fuse block harnesses. The Power Steering Pump accepts Power Steering Cooler hose and power steering pressure hose connectors with a tightening torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the Power Steering Hose assembly onto the front crossmember bracket mounting bolt with 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After raising the vehicle you should reconnect the power steering return hose and cooler hose to their proper place at the Power Steering Cooler. Attach and tighten the Power Steering Hose assembly to the power steering gear through its retaining bolt at 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). The last step involves draining the pan beneath the vehicle after lowering the vehicle to perform power steering system bleeding.
