    Q:
How to replace the rear Drive Shaft on GMC Jimmy? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process of a rear propeller shaft starts with securely supporting and raising the vehicle. Write marks on all driveline parts such as propeller shafts along with drive axles and pinion flanges and output shafts for correct reassembly position. Cautiously remove the clamp bolts from the pinion flange rear side by avoiding strikes to the yoke ears or inserting tools between the Universal Joint and yoke to prevent injection joint fracture. Position the propeller shaft forward until it releases from the rear axle flange while simultaneously securing the bearing cups with tape to stop roller loss. Pull the propeller shaft from the transmission with gentle rear direction until the Universal Joint stays straight to avoid breakage. Use a proper cleaning solvent to cleanse every part before thoroughly checking the nylon yoke's outer diameter for burrs together with inspecting the bearing cups for uniform seating arrangement. The slip yoke splines should be checked thoroughly for damage before adding new components. The installation process includes inserting the propeller shaft inside the transmission while applying lubrication to the slip joint before attaching the yoke to the pinion flange. A proportional fit between the reference marks on both components should be established as the final step before securing the retainers. You should install the rear pinion flange bolts while applying torque of 20 nm for 2.2l engines and 45 nm for 4.3l engines.
