    Q:
How to replace the steering knuckle on GMC Savana 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the Steering Knuckle, lift the roof of the vehicle and place safety stands under the control arms. Take off the tire and wheel assembly and after that will disconnect the Tie Rod from the Steering Knuckle. Next, it is time to take out the front brake caliper and the hub/roter taking care not to damage the seal at all. Take out the Steering Knuckle seal, and the attachment bolts that hold the splash shield to the knuckle (which are 3 bolts). Disassemble the upper and lower Ball Joint studs from the Steering Knuckle by employing the Ball Joint separator (J 23742), followed by disconnecting the Wheel Speed Sensor and finally the knuckle itself. Clean the Steering Knuckle and check the tapered hole; if it is out of round, deformed, or damaged, replace knuckle. The installation starts with the Wheel Speed Sensor to be installed in the Steering Knuckle, the upper and lower ball joints, and the Steering Knuckle seal. Mount the splash shield onto the Steering Knuckle and bolt them to the splash shield on with nuts, tightened to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Next, reconnect it into knuckle and the hub/rotor, then adjust the wheel bearings. Finally, install the front brake caliper and the wheel and the tire combination, remove the safety stands, lower the vehicle, and check the alignment of the front wheel.
