Rear Seal

The process of replacing the rear door Weather Strip on sedan models starts by removing the upper trim panel from the center pillar together with the side upper garnish molding from the windshield and both the quarter trim panel followed by the floor carpet retainer. The first step is to remove the Weather Strip from its installation position on the pinch weld flange. It is essential to eliminate gaps when you place the Weather Strip onto its pinch-weld flange particularly where the door opening intersects the corners. Position the Weather Strip onto the pinch weld flange before you reinstall the floor carpet retainer and the quarter trim panel along with the side upper garnish molding to the windshield. Insert the upper trim panel at the center pillar as the final step.

Loosen the quarter trim panel as outlined in the Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter (Coupe) section of the Interior Trim.

Clean all adhesive from the pinch-weld flange.

Press the weatherstrip until fully seated and continue pressing it into place in a counterclockwise direction around the door opening.

Apply weatherstrip adhesive GM P/N 12345096 (Canadian P/N 993365) or an equivalent to the rear door opening weatherstrip.

Grasp the door opening weatherstrip and pull it from the body flange.

Clean any adhesive residue from the flange using 3M(TM) Adhesive Remover P/N 8984 or an equivalent product.

Ensure that all push-in retainers are seated properly.

Install the upper trim panel to the center pillar.

Reinstall the windshield garnish molding, the quarter trim panel, and finally the carpet retainer to the vehicle.

Position the new rear door window weatherstrip onto the door.

Install the new hood rear weatherstrip onto the pinch weld flange.

Apply weatherstrip adhesive GM P/N 12345096 or an equivalent to the weatherstrip.

Take out the front door window weatherstrip bolts and remove the front door window weatherstrip by rotating the legs outboard.

Press the weatherstrip until fully seated and continue pressing it into place in a counterclockwise direction around the door opening.

Grasp the weatherstrip and pull it off the body flange.

Position the weatherstrip onto the flange on the body with the ends joined at the middle of the door sill, then starting at the top, push the weatherstrip onto the pinch-weld flange.

Reinstall the rear quarter upper trim panel, body lock pillar trim panel, center pillar lower trim panel, center pillar upper trim panel, and carpet retainer.
