• Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2000 Buick LeSabre?

  A: In-order to replace the Crankshaft rear oil seal, to first remove the Flywheel from the engine being sure not to damage Crankshaft od surface or chamfer with flat bladed tool. Then remove the Crankshaft rear oil seal by forcing a small thin bladed tool through the dust lip at an angle and pushing the handle of the tool towards the end of the Crankshaft, repeat as necessary. Check the id of the bore and repair or replace the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing and Crankshaft surface at the point of contact with the seal if it's not smooth or burrs and nicks are present, and replace the Crankshaft as necessary. For installation use the j 38196 rear Crankshaft seal installer (J 38196) by lubing both the inside and outside diameter of the new Crankshaft rear oil seal and slip over the mandrel until it snares against the collar of the j 38196. I hand mount the j38196 to the Crankshaft, or i tighten screws to 5 nm (54 inch l bs) then turn the t-handle of j 38196 to push seal into bore until the collar is tight on the case to ensure proper seat for a Crankshaft rear oil seal be tween Crankshaft and Crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Relax the t-handle until it can no longer go until it reaches the position of the collar for fitting another new Crankshaft rear oil seal and remove the attaching screws. Finally, reinstall the engine Flywheel and check for correct levels, as well as leaks.
