A proper procedure for servicing the front crankshaft seal starts by removing the crankshaft balancer with its bolt while avoiding damage to the seal bore and contact surfaces. The crankshaft front oil seal requires a screwdriver to dislodge it. The new oil seal installation requires the Seal Installer (J 35354) along with the crankshaft balancer bolt which should be tightened until the crankshaft front oil seal adequately sits in the engine front cover. After discarding the Seal Installer (J 35354) apply GM P/N 10522497 lubricant or its equivalent to the inner seal area of the crankshaft balancer before installing both components.
