2000 Cadillac Eldorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the steering knuckle on 2000 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Start Steering Knuckle servicing by first lifting and supporting the vehicle. First remove the tire and wheel assembly then proceed with hub and bearing assembly disassembly. Separate the Tie Rod End attached to the Steering Knuckle then remove the road sensing suspension sensor link. Begin by separating the Steering Knuckle from the lower Control Arm with tool j 36226 (Ball Stud Separator) before removing all nuts and bolts from the strut-to-knuckle connection to extract the knuckle. First install the knuckle into position then install the strut-to-knuckle bolts before final assembly. Route the lower Ball Joint through the knuckle before securing the road sensing suspension position sensor to the lower Control Arm. After reinstalling the tie rod to the knuckle proceed with the installation. When installing the hub and bearing assembly tighten the hub and bearing retaining bolts to 145 nm (110 ft. Lbs.) alongside the strut-to-knuckle nuts to 184 nm (136 ft. Lbs.). Use the j 35551 (Ball Stud Nut Wrench) to tighten the Ball Joint nut to 10 nm (84 inch lbs.) while at 90 degrees then continue nutting for 120 more degrees to reach a minimum torque of 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). The installation process requires an extra 60-degree turn of the nut before adding a cotter pin. After replacing the tire and wheel assembly you should tighten the wheel nuts to 140 nm (100 ft. Lbs.) before lowering the vehicle.
